Andriod cannot display Chinese

App title about Chinese is disappear

1.80.10

Hmm, I can’t reproduce that. Here’s some simplified Chinese used both with the app, and as scene names. We also have a lot of users in China and have never heard of problems, so we must be looking at a niche issue.

I’d like if you could try to paste this exact text as a file name: 高大宝拉

If that works, could you paste a sample of some text that doesn’t work for you? Is this possibly a difference between Traditional and Simplified Chinese?

It doesn’t work.

Hi,

I’m not 100% clear what I’m looking at. It appears that you’re at least able to type the characters into the name field as well.

It would be great to see a file selector of a file with that name already saved, so we can see if it shows up in the list. And it would be great to see you use this name for a shot.

Please send similar screenshots to the ones I posted above. There’s some font-substitution that isn’t happening like it’s supposed to, but I need to see the same screenshots, so I can get a sense of the scope. At present, it looks like you’re able to type those characters, so in effect, you sent evidence of this working. I’d like to see evidence of it not working.

Thanks!

Hi,

Indeed, I see the same thing now when running on my OnePlus 11.

It’s not absolutely certain we can do something about that in the existing version of Shot Designer. The thing is that we can only provide one comprehensive font to the underlying framework, but it appears that we’re been relying operating system fallbacks for any missing characters. This framework (AIR) doesn’t have a sophisticated font-fallback mechanism where we can provide multiple fonts and have them fall back in order, so I’m not even sure how to approach actually side-loading a Chinese font and have it considered along with the standard font already provide.

The new Shot Designer 3D is written in dramatically newer frameworks, and global character support. It’s possible we might just have to accept this as a limitation on mobile for the current version. It does, however, work perfectly on Mac/Windows, and there are quite a lot of Chinese users, which is why I initially assumed it was a more niche issue than it perhaps is.

Best,
