Causality not launching

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right area for this. but I’ve just got myself a new PC laptop, its 2 days old and Causality will not launched, it in-stalled without any issues. When I click on the icon nothing happens.

I’ve logged out of desktop version, so there are no devices using my subscription. Would be great if anyone could point me in the right direction.

This my new laptop spec, this is the first time I’m using Windows 11

Thanks for you time.

Hi Mark,

That is very strange indeed. Nothing in your specs would be a problem.

I’d love if you could open a Command Prompt, and paste:

explorer "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Hollywood Camera Work\Causality"

Please delete all files ending in .log. Then run the app, allow it to fail or hang, and then email any files ending in .log to support@hollywoodcamerawork.com.

You can also check the log yourself. If it looks like the app is doing its business and isn’t obviously hanging, then it could be a window layout problem. In that case, you need to remove a key from the registry. I’ll post that if needed, but it’s soon moot, as the next Causality release has completely rewritten window management.

Hi,

Thank you for the prompt, without it, I wouldn’t have found the problem. The Folder \Hollywood Camera Work\Causality did not excist. So, I un-installed the software and tried again and it worked.

I can only think off McAfee, it was running before I knew it was on the PC. And I may have installed Causality first, before I started removing the apps I didn’t want.

Did McAfee corrupt the install or does Causality create these folders when it starts up for the very first time and McAfee stops the process.

I have to say this. I didn’t even run the software, just un-installed it. I hate that much.

I will I had more answers for you, So we could help people in the future.

Causality works now… Thank you for time and I look forward to future releases.

Mark

Great! Yes, if those folders didn’t exist, the app had basically zero disk access. One of the very first things the app does on startup is open a log. So it’s very likely that McAfee blocked it.

To be clear, anti-virus software is only 80% effective, so they guess a lot, and it’s not even systemic. Someone else might have the exact same installation of everything, and it works fine.

I’m glad it works.
