Hello,
Currently it appears the two apps I love to use by Hollywood Camera Work, Shot Designer and Causality—are Intel based apps using Rosetta to run on Macs. With the announcement that Mac OS 27 is the last Mac OS to run apps relying on Rosetta, I hope there are plans on making a version of these apps that run native on Mac, so when Mac OS 28 comes out in a little over a year from now these wonderful tools still continue to work. Can you confirm there are plans for this?
Thanks!
Hi,
actually both apps run on both architectures. Shot Designer is a fat build that contains both architectures together. Remember that running on iOS is running on Apple Silicon. It’s the ARM architecture so we’ve been running on that since forever.
For Causality we have two separate builds. There is an Intel build and an Apple Silicon build.
And the new Shot Designer 3D, coming out in the not-too-distant future, may only run on Apple Silicon.
Thank you. I presumed merely updating my app, which was from the Mac Intel download, would upgrade it to Apple Silicon. I have gone to the downloads page and downloaded Causality for Apple Silicon specifically. Very glad to hear that there are plans to upgrade Shot Designer to Apple Silicon too.
Hi,
To be clear, Shot Designer is already Apple Silicon, it contains both architectures.
For Causality, the current update system keeps people on the architecture they started on. But we’re considering simply pushing people onto the best architecture they can support.
