Okay, you’re editing at the end of a beat (which is also a scene) in full-screen. You hit the down arrow to move to the next beat, and bang, the cursor jumps forward much too far. It’s not clear where it jumped, but you’re lost. Annoying! V4.0.29 on Mac.

I believe this was an issue that was resolved. We have too much automation going on with each area positioning the other areas, and we’ve resolved some feedback loops.

I wanted to follow up on this. It’s not fixed in 4.0.32, and unfortunately, it’s really an annoyance when editing in the script pane.
So many times I get to the end of a scene, and BOOM, my script scrolls crazy fast to the bottom of the next scene. “Whoa! Where am I?”

Does this happen reliably enough for you that you’d be able to capture a video of it. It’s only that it doesn’t happen here, and we need more hints.
Okay, I figured it out: internally, every beat stores its cursor edit point. I didn’t know that.
So, in script view, as I down-arrow past the bottom of a beat, the cursor skips to the prior edit point in the next beat.
In my case, that’s often the last line of the beat. That’s why I saw it skipping the entire next beat when arrowing downward.
So: is it a bug or a feature?
I’d say it’s a bug because I don’t expect the program to save every edit point in every beat.
But, if you consider it a feature, it would be nice to provide a setting to disable this behavior.

I don’t fully understand. Beats don’t save any information about the current timeline.
But there is a current bug in the timeline that zooming is no longer centered on the current beat, which will be fixed shortly, we just discovered it.
Let me clarify. It turns out the scrolling is incidental. It occurs when the prior edit point of the next beat is outside the script window view.
That’s why it was difficult to pin down. Every beat stores its prior edit point. When advancing to a new beat (up or down) the cursor jumps to the prior edit point. That can cause the script to scroll.
