After a year-long hiatus, I finally got around to upgrading Causality from 3.2.62 to 4.0.22 (and then up to 4.0.29). However, in all of the 4.0.?? versions I’ve installed, my Research Window is completely blank - no panes for folders, contents, relationships, etc. - and clicking Ctrl-R or selecting Research Window from the menu does nothing. If I reinstall 3.2.62, everything works again like it did before, without problem.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
In case it makes any difference, I’m running Windows 11 on an Alienware Area51M laptop and everything else (Windows, drivers, antivirus, etc.) is kept up-to-date.
Hi,
That’s wild, we’ve not seen or heard of this from anyone else. Would you be able to post a screenshot of what this looks like?
I’m also wondering if this is somehow tied to the file having been saved in 3.2.x with the Research Window open, and then 4.x perhaps showing some window stub that we then forgot to remove? What happens if you close the window and press the Research button in the Whiteboard toolbar?

Another half of a year gone… my apologies for taking so long to respond.
After having to rebuild my computer following some hard drive woes, I have reinstalled both 3.2.62.0 and 4.1.1… and I finally figured out what was going on.
When I last saved my novel in 3.2.62.0, I had the Script, Timeline, and Whiteboard all undocked in separate windows, while the Research window was docked in the main window. Apparently in 4.x you can’t dock the Research window, it only opens in a separate window… so when it loaded the save with a docked Research window, it just gave me a blank white window and a non-functional menu option.
After some tinkering, I finally had the bright idea of docking the other windows. Once I did that, selecting the Research window from the menu finally worked. I have since discovered that I have to keep Script, Timeline, or Whiteboard docked from now on (if I undock two of them, I can’t undock the third). I can work with that, it’s just a different way of juggling my windows.

Hi,
Did we fix this via email?
About the inability to dock the research window, we’ve concluded here that this was a mistake, and we have to go back.
