(Windows 11, the latest alpha version) The research window always starts in full screen, unless after a previous crash. It’s not possible to get out of full-screen mode, and the button to switch it on or the selection in the menu won’t work—the only way to close the research window is by right-clicking the active task bar icon/bar and choosing “close window”.
Hmm, I’m wondering if we’re remember some position from when you last used Research in full screen, and it’s interfering.
So to confirm, you can’t close the Research window AT ALL? The close box doesn’t work? Clicking the Research button again doesn’t work?
If I’ve misunderstood, and you can close the window, I’d love to know what happens if you resize it to a good side, then close the window, and then close the app. This is on the theory that we’re failing to commit the settings, so I want to close the app all the way to force it to remember. Does the window then have the right size the next time you open it?

I’m not sure what you mean by the “close box”, but if you mean the button on the top right side of the window, these buttons, for minimizing, for maximizing and for closing, they are not even visible. The entire top bar of the window is not visible. Because normally you could change from full screen, from maximized position, I mean, to the window position, by double clicking on the top bar of each window. But even that bar is not visible. So, once I open the research, it always opens in full screen mode, and it’s not possible to resize that window or close it. The only way to close it is to right click in the taskbar, windows taskbar, and choose “close window”. So, using the function that works for every Windows application.
I guess you might be right that it remembers the last position because once it did open in window mode, when the application crashed, but the moment I maximized it, it was all the same again.
The research button in the main app window only opens the research, but it is unable to close it - even though it deselects the highlight. The same thing in the menu on top - when I deselect it, the research stays open.
I hope this explanation will help you.
Got it. I’ve seen this before, that the full screen mode for the tool windows is broken. I also blamed my multi-monitor setup, but I think the problem is deeper. I’ll move it to the top of the list. I too couldn’t escape full screen for a tool window once I was on it.
